Senator Letter #32

Dear Senator:

Hello! My name is Angelica Ortega and I am 13 years old. I am in the 8th grade and I attend school at Frank Borman Middle School. I am in the honors program and I am learning about the laws. I have my own opinion in some of them and it may get you upset but I am writing you this letter to share some ideas. I am here to share my opinion about the issue of "IMMIGRATION." I know that you guys are for it but in my opinion I think that immigration is wrong. You guys may think that the immigrants are destroying our country, ruining or communities, or doing other things but think about it, do you really think that immigrants come here to do that? If you were in their position you wouldn't like it at all. If you interview people you will find good reasons why they have come here to the United States. And you will find that they come here to live for great reasons.

There are many problems for this issue. One is that you are splitting up many families. Another reason is because you are not giving anyone a chance to prove that they are not here for bad reasons. Many people are here to do better for them selves but you can't notice that because you throw them out of our country. If you give them a chance you will realize that they are here to make our country a better place to live. In order for the jobs to be done, we will need to have other people from other countries. What race do you see mostly over at construction sites? The majority is Latinos/Mexicans. They are the only ones that can keep a job and prove what they believe in. They are the majority percentage that are able to handle the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. In reality they are the ones that are making our country a good environment to live in. If we make them leave then who will do these things to help our country survive?

What I would like you to do is at least think about giving the immigrants a chance. What about giving them a certain amount of time to prove that they are here for a good reason and not to destroy our country. Interview them, take a test, just do anything to at least give them that opportunity to prove their case in a respectful manner. I believe in all honesty that this may be a good idea and it is doing everyone good. This is truly helping our country in many ways. Yes, there are going to be a small percentage here not to help their family or not to do better but you have to realize the reality. Not everybody likes to do good and be proud but the whole world is not responsible. There are going to be those few. But just don't block the border from here to Mexico because of that 5%, it's not right!! No matter what it takes, just please give them a chance to show what they really want and how bad they want it. If they don't show it real bad then I understand.

I really believe that this will work for mainly 2 reasons. In my heart I believe that this will help our country. The reason being is because the great majority of percentage you see at construction sites are Latinos. They are the main race that are able to handle the cold and the heat. The second reason is because I believe that any human being has the right to go and live in any country/city/state and live where they want to. If they want to have a better life and believe that will happen in our country they should be given that opportunity and should be aloud to do so. Yes I think that they should be given a certain amount of time to get their citizen card that shows they are legal. I believe this will work and I think it's a good idea.

I just wanted to thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to my opinion. I hope that you have considered letting the immigrants have a better life and support their families. I understand your point of view but I do believe that it is wrong. I hope you try to compromise in my opinion and I will greatly appreciate it. I hope you have enjoyed hearing my "voice." I understand that I am only 13 years old but I don't like to hear about people dieing each day. I can make a difference!!!!!!!

Sincerely:

Angelica Ortego
