Senator Letter #34

Dear Senator:

My name is Karen Galvez. I'm 13 years old and I go to Frank Borman Middle School in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm in 8th grade. I know you are wondering, why is this young lady writing to me? The reason I'm writing this is because I really think the immigrants should have a second chance. I think the law should have been past when you had a chance to pass the Amnesty law. That's the reason why I'm reason I'm writing this to you.

I'm really proud of my background. I’m Mexican-American. I really enjoy both cultures a lot. You probably think my family is immigrants. Well if you did then you're right. That’s the main reason I'm writing this. We’ve always had a hard time. The main reason is they are immigrants. They sometimes want to go back but then they don’t. We don't go because I tell them that I don't want to go. Well at least until I finish High School. That’s the only thing that holds them back. You know that we had a lot of hope that one day they will pass the Amnesty law. That way we can come and go and they work here. In this time it’s really hard to get a job. So, not only will it help me but it will also help millions of people that are in the same situation as me. Or an even harder situation. I’m only doing it for me but for those other immigrants out there in the USA.

Amnesty should have been past when it had the chance. It worked when Reagan passed it and the economy and tax revenue improved. Consider that. Everyone deserves a chance to try to stay in this country. Especially the immigrants that is 15 and younger. They have a whole life ahead of them. They especially should have a chance to stay here and get an education. Also the immigrants that have children born here should stay as well. Their children have all rights to stay here and grow with their parents.

Also immigrants that are willing to work should at least have stay here a year and see if they do anything illegal. If they do they should go back. Some people that were born here and grow-up they don't even bother to work. Then they are all arguing that immigrants are taking their jobs, when most of them don't even have a job. I’m not saying that you should give all the immigrants. Only the ones with no criminal record have a job etc...

I'm trying to make you pass the law. I just want you to consider my opinions. I hope you agree with me. If you do or you already did please help me to try to convince the other senators to agree with me (us). That will help a lot in trying to pass the law. Imagine how many people will be happy. So, please help me and all those other people that are for civil rights, and that believe that everyone should have a chance to have a better life.

If the law passes imagine what will happen to this country we live in. The countries economy will go up because we will have more people working jobs. We won't starve because we will have people working on getting food for the country. We will have a lot of things we normally won't have. Also since immigrants (15 and younger) are going to have a chance to get a good education. We will also have more doctors, lawyers etc...If the law does not pass those kids or teenagers won't be doing all those careers. That we all need in our country.

Also If the law is passed immigrants won't be hiding no more. For example a lot of immigrants are hiding. Why? Well only because they don't want to be deported. Another thing is that people are scared to go out to the store or some place. They don't want to leave. They know they could get a better life here. That’s why I've always been fighting for civil rights. I believe that people should be able to stay here, and work a job. Well only under some circumstances. Is that so hard?

If they can't come here or stay here and work. Then people from this country shouldn't go to other places. For example an American can't go Mexico. Why? Well because their country doesn't let people from their country go to the USA. Just as simple as that. People don't want that. Do they? That’s why I hate these laws that are against immigrants. I know not everyone from this country is like that but the majority is. Or at least the politics are. Again not all of them.

Well thanks a lot for taking your time to read this. I really hope you understand where I'm coming from. I’m not trying to go off on you, but I'm just so sick of these laws. I hope you consider my opinions and agree with me. Please help me and all those immigrants that will really appreciate this opportunity. Once again thank you so much. Even if you don't agree, still thanks for wasting your time on reading this letter. Hope you have a great day.

Sincerely:

Karen Galvez
